Gone are the days of single beds pushed together with a rolled-up blanket in the centre. The new partner bed is the perfect place to fall asleep and wake up together. Mrs Pfister and Mr Kloppenburg sink into the pillows hand in hand and are delighted with this Valentine's gift, which also includes two homelike Aparto bedside cabinets.

This story began with a television report. West German Radio (WDR) had been researching couples in nursing homes and came across the heart-warming love story from Uerdingen. When Renate Pfister moved into the Kunigundenheim a year ago, Paul Kloppenburg approached her immediately. "The first day here is the hardest," he says. "Renate looked out of the window and seemed to ask herself: Where am I? What am I doing here? So we had a chat and I explained to her that everything was very, very good here." In fact, everything turned out to be much better than expected, as a great new love quickly developed between the two of them in their beautiful new home.

When the WDR report is broadcast, Thilo Heidenreich is sitting in front of the television. The Sales Manager for the Nursing home division at Stiegelmeyer is deeply moved - and immediately starts thinking. The TV report clearly shows that the newly in love couple sleep in unequal single beds in their double room. Wouldn't a Libra partner be a much better solution? And would Stiegelmeyer manage to give the couple such a bed before Valentine's Day?
Thilo Heidenreich immediately gets to work. He organises a sample bed, consults with the home management and clarifies all the logistical issues. And so, just four days before the big date, a Stiegelmeyer lorry drives onto the forecourt of the Kunigundenheim.
The Libra partner is a large, imposing bed, but delivery and assembly take just a few minutes. The Stiegelmeyer employees roll the two halves of the bed to the lift, then it's up to the second floor. The path to the room leads through the circle of chairs of a gymnastics group, who look after the elegantly upholstered bed with interest. In front of the door, the side panels can be removed without tools thanks to the Vario Safe system, so that everything fits comfortably through the door frame. Inside, the bed halves are joined, the two reading lights are plugged in, the Aparto bedside cabinets are positioned – and that's it!

The couple have been eagerly awaiting the bed and now have to make their first decision: Who sleeps on which side? The question is quickly answered – he sleeps by the window, she faces the door. "The bed is far too good to lie in," says Renate Pfister, but then they both take a cosy seat on their sides. Thilo Heidenreich explains the convenient options: Each has their own handset to individually adjust the back and thigh rests. The height of the entire mattress base can be adjusted from 25 to 80 cm so that the resident can stand up ergonomically and the caregivers can work without straining their back. If required, the partner bed can also be divided into two single beds, but that is not an issue on this day.
Renate Pfister and Paul Kloppenburg are lying in bed, sipping champagne and talking about how happy their life is at the Kunigundenheim. "Everything is great here," says Mrs Pfister. The two of them get up at seven in the morning and enjoy breakfast together. Later, a skat group provides entertainment. On the walls of the room are many photos of children and grandchildren who visit regularly.

Guido Ruegenberg, the manager of the Kunigundenheim, is delighted with the praise. And adds another interesting piece of information: The touching love story is not a rarity. People find each other in the nursing home time and again, and there are currently several couples.
The flexible Libra partner was created precisely for this requirement. It is a double bed and single bed, care bed and lifestyle bed, tested medical product and customisable designer bed. Head and footboards, side panels and safety sides can be removed, replaced or retrofitted at any time without tools using the Vario Safe system. It is a bed for all occasions – especially when love suddenly awakens. We wish all couples of all ages a romantic Valentine's Day and a happy time together.
