Modern paediatric hospital beds must today combine safety, hygiene and intuitive operation. They should inspire confidence whilst meeting the high demands of care. Young patients often experience their stay in hospital more intensely and emotionally – making an environment that conveys a sense of security and stability all the more important. Since 2020, the EU standard EN 50637 for paediatric beds has defined the technical requirements for this.
Throughout its 125-year history, Stiegelmeyer has always placed great emphasis on the well-being of young patients and is currently investing in this area once again. At the end of 2025, the company acquired the renowned paediatric bed division of the Dutch firm Oostwoud International B.V., which enjoys a high reputation in the Benelux countries, Germany and many other nations. Based on this advanced technology, the new Milou children’s hospital bed is currently being developed in-house. Further details will follow shortly.

Youth bed for hospitals: Seta pro - variant junior in Detail
The Seta pro - variant junior youth bed is already a successful model in our portfolio. With its mattress dimension of 78 x 180 cm, it is designed for children up to teenage age. At Stiegelmeyer, the Seta series stands for classic, robust and comfortable adult beds. The youth bed also combines these strengths.
A key feature is the sturdy, continuous safety sides, which are firmly integrated into the head and footboards. They are intuitive to operate and, thanks to their smooth design, easy to clean. All gaps comply with the EU standard to prevent dangerous situations and injuries.
With a height adjustment range of 35 to 91 cm, the youth bed enables ergonomic, back-friendly working – for both nursing staff and doctors. The adjustment is controlled via a control box in the linen holder at the foot of the bed, which can be locked away beneath the mattress base. Optionally, the Seta pro - variant junior can also be fitted with an LCD handset featuring a large display and just three buttons, the operation of which is likely to appeal particularly to tech-savvy young patients. This unit can also be locked away in a compartment by the bed in accordance with the EU standard. The bed’s compact external dimensions of 93 x 193 cm make it easier to use in smaller rooms and to manoeuvre through narrow corridors or doorways.
A pioneer in children’s beds for over a century
For over a century, Stiegelmeyer has shaped the development of paediatric hospital beds. The first models, which anticipated the key principles of modern paediatric beds, were created as early as 1910. Our archives contain an illustration from that period of a toddler bed on castors with an adjustable backrest and transparent safety sides. In this way, our family-run company helped define the characteristics of this product type from the very beginning – characteristics that remain valid to this day. The fact that we are shaping the future today with the same enthusiasm underlines our values: human – reliable – solution- focused.
