First and foremost, the Stiegelmeyer Group will continue to grow internationally over the coming years. This objective is perhaps the most important issue of all. It is true that traditional Central European markets will be faced with major tasks in the years ahead, due in part to the demographic change that will result in a marked increase in people in need of care. However, particularly in the hospital sector, further growth in the number of beds is not expected to occur in the foreseeable future. On the contrary, the German government’s reform efforts are targeted much more towards reducing capacities.
It’s a different picture, however, on the global stage. Many emerging countries are expanding their healthcare systems. We look forward to helping to achieve this based on the wealth of experience and innovative spirit that we offer. Good examples of our activities in recent years include the expansion of our network of sales partners to over 100 countries, the founding of a subsidiary in China and our intensified efforts in Latin America and the Middle East. What is equally important for us is to adapt our portfolio to meet the requirements of international markets. European engineering is in demand the world over, but one-size-fits-all solutions are no longer enough in today’s world. That’s why the Stiegelmeyer Group has positioned its product management strongly to enable it to respond flexibly to the needs of different markets.

Digitalisation and artificial intelligence are exciting issues that at the same time present major challenges. Many companies find themselves in an ambivalent situation in this regard: while great emphasis is placed on the importance of digitalisation as a decisive future market, customer interest in actually buying into this technology fails to reflect this importance as yet. The Stiegelmeyer Group is well-positioned with its Connectivity Lab in Herford. We work on solutions that are of real use in everyday life and do not overburden nursing and care staff with even more technical demands. This can be seen for example in our easy to use Out-of-Bed systems. In future, medical beds will provide increasing amounts of status information which can be used, for example, to considerably facilitate bed management.
When we talk about what nursing care will look like in the future, we use many terms that have not yet even found their way into the dictionary. “A combination of inpatient and outpatient or ambulatory care” (referred to in German as “Stambulante Pflege”) and “outpatientisation or ambulantisation of care” (referred to in German as “Ambulantisierung der Gesundheitsversorgung”) are two examples of this. In place of full service inpatient provision in hospital, or full service residential care in a nursing home, there will be hybrid forms where patients will return home at night, or where relatives will help to care for their parents in a home. The objective is to mitigate the shortage of skilled manpower and alleviate any increased costs.

More than ever before, these new forms of healthcare call for flexible and mobile products that are quick and easy to move and convert. Besides beds and bedside cabinets, additional furniture will also play an important part in fitting out residents’ rooms, common rooms and reception rooms. The Stiegelmeyer Group has already taken important steps to undertake a comprehensive expansion of the wood production plant in Nordhausen into an ultra-modern furniture centre. As an international provider of intersectoral supply solutions, we are able to accompany people from the cradle up to an advanced age and provide an ideal, attractive and comfortable environment.
“It’s difficult to make predictions, especially about the future,” as the well-known saying goes. But one thing is certain: To be successful for another 125 years, Stiegelmeyer and Burmeier need to work closely with their customers and partners. Their valuable feedback motivates us anew each day. We would like to conclude our calendar stories by thanking you, our readers, for the interest you have shown. We look forward to experiencing, together with you, the times that lie ahead of us.
